Pink Squirrel

Day 90

Pink Squirrel
4 shots out of 5

How many of you used to watch Rosanne?

I wasn't a hard core Rosanne fan, but I did watch enough to know who everyone was, each person's stories and I do remember when the oldest daughter moved out and into a wee little apartment with her boyfriend.

That being said, tonight's cocktail was sent to me by Holly.

Holly first heard of this cocktail years ago on an episode of Rosanne.

I gave tonight's cocktail 4 shots out of 5.

This cocktail is pretty darn good!

I think it would make an absolutely fabulous blended cocktail as well!

The creaminess reminds me of the Chi Chi that I made back in February.

This is a simple cocktail to make and if you are in the mood for a creamy cocktail, this is the one for you.

I can absolutely taste each ingredient in this cocktail, it's as Holly describes "Its mild, creamy, and nutty, with just a slight hint of chocolate".

If you like that combination, you'll definitely like this cocktail!

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is the recipe for the Pink Squirrel:

  • 1 shot amaretto (Holly's recipe called for cream de noyaux, which neither one of us has been able to find lately, so she said any almond type cream liqueur will work)
  • 1 Tbsp white creme de cacao
  • 1 Tbsp light cream (I only had heavy cream, which tasted fine, but I can tell the light cream would work better making it a lighter cocktail)
In a shaker, add ice, amaretto, white creme de cacao and cream.  Shake it up real good to get everything blended up well.  In a martini glass, place a maraschino cherry in the bottom and strain your cocktail right on top.

Thank You Holly for your recipe for the Pink Squirrel!  This is definitely a cocktail worth making and enjoying again!!

Cheers!!

  1. A true Pink Squirrel should be made with a good Creme de Noyaux....which is what gives it the pink color. If you use only an amaretto it will make it a more "brown" squirrel. Although both are almond flavored, only the Noyaux imparts the pink hue.

    1. Thank you for your comment! Yes, you are absolutely right......unfortunately I was not able to find it at the time I was making this cocktail. That's excuse enough to find it and make it again, right? =)

  2. Absolutely :)! As a matter of fact, my birthday was on
Sunday (Val. Day) and trust me, we had a gaggle of
Pink Squirrels :D Like you though, I couldn't find any Creme de Noyaux anywhere! I didn't want to "settle" for the Amaretto....so what I did was I bought a bottle of Cherry Brandy :) I used that and voila...a gorgeous pink color and it tasted spectacular! :D So that takes care of Valentine's Day...now on to something green for St Patrick's Day....grasshoppers always, but maybe something else that's good and green :D
